Tips for GEMS designer
You can prepare a project geometry in the CAD file formats such as SAT, ProE, IGES, STEPS, CATIA, DXF (2004 format), and import it to GEMS designer.
Always use the half value of the fine structure dimension as the minimum cell size in the mesh design.
Whenever it is possible, use the symmetric boundary condition to reduce the simulation time and memory usage.
Use the Plumb line to draw the lumped and wave ports.
For the thin slanted structure, you can use the coarse mesh if it is lossy or lossless dielectric, conductor, or, infinitely thin PEC sheet.
Draw the object with a finite thickness first then the object with an infinitely thin thickness to ensure the thin object is not erased by the touched objects.
For a symmetric structure fed by a co-planar structure, you can simulate half of the structure and use the lumped or wave ports to excite one side. Otherwise, you can extend and short the two ground sides and use lumped port between the ground and inner conductor.
For the high-Q systems, the convergence level should be down to -40dB even -50dB.
Adding the window function can speed up the convergence of the simulation. However, it may reduce the level of S-parameters.

Tips for GEMS solver

For a complex geometry problem, you can increase the number of sub-domains to accelerate the project pre-processing.
Use a cluster for your simulation whenever it is possible regardless of problem size.
For the same hardware platform, the Linux platform can be faster and solve larger problem than the Windows platform.
The network system significantly affects the simulation performance on a cluster.
GEMS WBI supports the online simulation and does not require any knowledge of Linux system even your cluster is installed with Linux system.
GEMS Linux system cluster can be recovered by itself if something happens to it and does not require any IT support.
 

Tips for GEMS display

You can double click on the GEMS direct output parameter in the result tree to view it.
Parameter in dB scale, the polar system requires a reference value.
You can export the output parameter into a data file by using the Export option in the file menu.
You can export the output parameters with the same attribute into one single file by selecting them in the result tree.
You can change display scale of the 3-D field or current distribution in dB or linear scale. The reference of dB scale can be adjusted whenever it is necessary.
After change the reference level in dB scale, you need to re-plot the distribution.
GEMS data processing center allows you to derive your own output parameters. You can type the formula in the text box, validate the formula, feed the variables in the formula with the GEMS direct outputs, and do the calculation. You can plot a result in dB scale, linear scale, and Smith Chart.
Use the built-in formula to derive more parameters from the GEMS direct results.
